The journey of self-improvement starts with a single step: motivation.
Easier said than done, of course.
You could be suffering from a seemingly hopeless case of obesity, struggling with diabetes, battling with social anxiety or simply lacking the will to live a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. Whatever your personal dilemmas, no matter how challenging, I assure you: there is light at the end of the tunnel!
My foray into health and fitness began in (wait for it)… Junior High.
That’s right. A rosy-cheeked 12-year-old boy always panting after 5 minutes of walking through the school hallway—it was the stuff of nightmares, laced with unpleasant nicknames and endless wedgies.
Spoiled rotten by a typical affectionate grandma and a doting mom who owned her own pastry shop, I was the only child in a house that smelled perpetually of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and delectable strawberry cream-cheese cobbler.
And it certainly didn’t help that the generous servings of my grandmother’s hand-cooked pasta made McDonald’s Super Size combo seem like a kiddy meal.
My unhealthy consumption of food, accompanied by virtually zero exercise (unless you count breathing), became synonymous with my social identity. It wasn’t long before I lost everything, from my confidence to my smile (pretty much everything besides the extra weight)!
Help arrived in the form of my High School counselor (RIP Josephine Brown) who inspired me to set achievable fitness goals. By focusing on wellness and discipline, I managed to not just trim the fat, but set an example for the beautiful women who raised me.
