4 Signs It’s Time for a New Paint Job

Does your house look older and more neglected than it is? Do you remember the last time it got a fresh coat of paint that brought it back to life? Does it look like it could use a pick-me-up in the form of a paint job?

Surprisingly, a lot of homeowners wait till it’s pretty late before they decide to hire professional painters who will get the job done. Yes, paint transforms the appearance of your home, but it’s important to know its role in acting as a barrier against UV rays and harsh weather elements such as rain and snow.

So even though a quality paint job will get you through many years, it’s essential to pay attention to the signs that it’s time for a refresher.

1.     Colors look faded and washed out

Years of sun damage and exposure to wind, dust, rain, and snow can take a toll on your home’s exteriors. Paint has a lifespan, too, and beyond that, it fails to provide protection and aesthetic function. If your home’s walls look a lot lighter and patchier than you remember, and there is an unevenness to the color, you should also check for other signs.

 2.     Stains and spots have taken over

Stains of all sorts, including dirt and unknown materials, tend to appear as time goes by. Very often, they’re not even noticeable, and we stop paying attention to them till there’s one too many. These spots tend to be the result of moisture, mold, and mildew, which require professional removal and safety measures, especially because spores from the molds can trigger allergies and other health problems.

3.     Cracked caulking and chipping paint

Caulking is used in several homes to fill gaps and help the paint adhere to the surface, but over time it too tends to crack and wear away, especially if high-quality caulking was not used in the initial process. When caulking cracks, it also causes the paint to chip and crack, giving an unsightly appearance and lowered protection.

4.     Moisture damage or damage to sidings

When moisture seeps into your walls, be it concrete or wood, you’re in for some trouble. Prolonged, neglected moisture damage can lead to staining, stench, mold formation, warped wiring, and other effects that require immediate attention. Paint tends to provide protection against water seepage into your walls, especially wooden walls.

Additionally, if your wooden walls have started to peel away and the wood is exposed, it’s most definitely time to call in the professionals!

Maybe you’re experiencing a few of these signs, or maybe none at all. Sometimes a change of heart is enough!
